Douches

An enema bulb (sometimes referred to as a douche) is a tool whose purpose is to clean out the lower rectum prior to anal play. 

An enema bulb can be filled with water to shoot into the rectum via a smooth tube that enters the anal canal. For comfort and safety, you might wish to lubricate the nozzle first. Once the water is inserted, it's expelled over a toilet or in the shower -- some users do this a couple of times to remove as much fecal material as possible. 

Fill your douching tool with filtered or distilled water, at a lukewarm temperature. Be sure your bulb and water are both clean - because the rectum is extremely absorptive—if the water or bulb isn't clean, the body can absorb contaminants. 

Filtered water is more than enough to do the job of cleaning you thoroughly and is the safest route. You may find pre-mixed enemas at the drugstore, BUT: if you do this, get the saline variety and be wary - many of the pre-mixed products are full of chemicals. You may have heard of coffee or even alcohol enemas. Do not use these, especially alcohol, during douching, as this bypasses the liver and can cause harm or even be fatal. Be wise and always read ingredients thoroughly.

Yes, as long as you are being mindful of your body and not over-douching. Here are the things to remember:

• If your gut health and diet are good, you may not need to rinse at all. (Fiber!) A healthy bowel movement is solid and doesn't leave residue behind.
• Frequent douching can harm the good microbes that keep the rectum protected. Don't do it daily; give yourself some time to get back to normal between douche adventures. 
• Filtered or distilled water is enough to clean thoroughly, there's no need to add chemicals or cleaners that can disrupt the body.
• A bulb syringe is the easiest and safest way to douche. If you are using a nozzle that can attach to a faucet or shower, be mindful not to use high water pressure as this can harm the body.
• Use lukewarm water, not too hot or cold, to avoid discomfort or injuries like burns.
